SINGAPORE - Dr Tony Tan revealed as the new President of Singapore. 71-year-old banker has won the presidency in Singapore by winning 35 percent of the 2.1 million Singaporeans to vote.Former Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore won 744,397 votes in the election and win the tan Cheng Bock rival by a margin of 7629 votes.
Interestingly, this announcement of election results was delayed for several hours after election officials recount the votes are there. The delay is due to fierce competition from two candidates contesting for the presidency this.
Presidential elections with an electoral system in Singapore is the first time carried out by Singapore since 1993. Generally the determination of the President of Singapore is only ceremonial.
Once elected, pledged to work hard to serve the citizens of Singapore. "I swear to work hard for the people of Singapore, despite their different political views. The President is more important than politics," Tan said as quoted by Al Jazeera on Sunday (28/08/2011).
